Hello and good evening everyone! (or good morning) Today’s topic is a high CPU utilization in Windows 10. We recently installed the Microsoft’s latest Windows 10, and we were exited with the fresh operating system. It seemed everything was smooth, but tonight, we have realized that our customized desktop (https://www.pntbrother.com/pnt-custom-desktop-build-september-10-2015/) for our office is making louder fan noise since we have upgraded the OS. So, we did use hwmonitor and the Windows task manager to check the CPU utilization, and something was happening. The processor was running at it’s maximum clock and speed all the time!
The processor (AMD FX6300 Six-Core) was running at maximum speed all the time
We couldn’t believe it because it is not a weak single core processor. (the high CPU usage is acceptable if we had single or dual core processor) The AMD FX 6300 processor is known to be very good multi-tasking processor. As you see above picture, we are not running any games or heavy application, it was idle situation, but all the six processors were at full speed. At this point, we thought the Windows 10 could be really heavy OS, and we started to miss the old Windows 7, but we wanted to know why. We did research on Google, and we found that we are not the only one. Something in Windows 10 was causing this.
How to fix the high CPU utilization in Windows 10
We couldn’t just live with it because the CPU fan was noisy, and processor temperature was getting hotter. The problem was Windows 10’s Tips and Notification feature. If you turn it off, the high CPU utilization will be back to normal. Try this and see if your high utilization goes away. 🙂 🙂 🙂 It is very easy.
1. Click the Windows 10 start button, and click “Settings“.
2. You will see Windows 10 settings. Click the first one “System“. (Display, notifications, apps, power)
3. On the left menu, click “Notifications & actions“, and on the right side, turn off “Show me tips about Windows“.
4. Restart your computer. (Must Restart. We were disappointed that nothing is really different after turning off the Windows tip notification feature)
Yes. After restarting, it worked. The AMD FX6300 processor does not run at full speed anymore. As you see the AMD FX6300 temperature has dropped (about 10C). The Clocks are running at 1406MHz, and also the CPU utilization is at 6%. Looks Good! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Maybe the Windows 10 Tips and Notifications feature is not optimized really well… Anyways, it’s good that there is a solution for this.
Thank you and have a good night! or day!
