Hello everyone, today we are going share how to perform SMC & PRAM reset on Macbook Pro, Macbook Air and iMac. If there is a problem with SMC (System Management Controller), Some functions (USB ports, LED Backlight Keyboard, HDMI Ports, and etc) might not be worked properly. It’s good to reset SMC or PRAM when you have one of the following issues:
- USB ports doesn’t recognize other external devices such as external hard drive, USB stick, and so on.
- LED Backlight Keyboard is not working properly
- Cooling Fan is not spinning well
- Battery Issues (Doesn’t last longer, not charging, and so on)
- HDMI and Thunderbolt ports are not working properly.
- Network Issues (Connection problem on Lan and Bluetooth)
If you have one of the symptoms above, try to perform SMC & PRAM reset.
SMC RESET for Macbook Pro & Air & Pro Retina
If your Macbook battery is non-removal, try to reset SMC using this steps.
Step 01. Shutdown your Macbook.
Step 02. Connect the MacSafe power adaptor to your Macbook.
Step 03. Press and Hold Shift + Option + Command + Power Key at the same time. (You will see the power adaptor’s light turn to green for few seconds.)
Step 04. Release all keys and Turn your Macbook on.
SMC RESET for iMAC & Mac Mini
Step 01. Shutdown your iMac or Mac Mini.
Step 02. Unplug your Power Cord.
Step 03. Press and Hold the power button for 5 seconds and Release.
Step 04. Plug the Power Cord to your iMac & Mac Mini and Turn it on.
PRAM RESET for ALL Macbooks
Step 01. Shutdown your Macbook
Step 02. Press the Power Button pressing and holding Option + Commnad + R + P keys at the same time.
Step 03. Now you can only release the power button but keep holding the Option + Commnad + R + P keys until the screen turn to grey.
Step 04. Release all keys.
