No Problem! 🙂
I applied to fixes to my registry. My operating system is Windows 8.1.
Fix 1 was to enable update: Same location in registry, changed 0 to 1.
Fix 2 is the one mentioned here, however I only had 1 of the 2 in the registry (- Update{8A69D345-D564-463C-AFF1-A69D9E530F96}) which I deleted. I closed the browser, restarted my computer and now Google updates successfully. Thanks for the info.
IMPORTANT TO READERS HERE:ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE MAKING CHANGES. USE THE “EXPORT” FUNCTION AND GIVE IT A NAME LIKE “REGISTRY 01_02_2015 V1”.
Worked for me! I had researched this problem extensively and found many very different “solutions” including an extensive registry hack. Scary. Your solution was simple and worked like a charm. Thanks.
Glad to hear that! 🙂
Thank you! I had tried the regedit where you change the zero to 1, and Chrome would try to update but always come back to the error 7. I only had this file of the two you suggested. Update{8A69D345-D564-463C-AFF1-A69D9E530F96} Deleted it, reopened Chrome, and it starting updating. Wonderful!
Thank you for your suggestion! 🙂
Just wanted to say thanks for simplifying this update for me. The Google error instructions were so confusing. Thank you.
Thank you! :):)
I knew it had to be simpler than editing the registry for windows which other tutorials advised. Thanks for this quick and simple fix!
You’re Welcome! :):)
thank you, saved me lots of trouble, the google suggestion of editing group policies was so confusing, yours was an easy fix,awesome.cheers.
after extensive web searching and hair pulling, i found you and one delete and my life is reborn. thanks * 1000. i texted santa and put in a good word for you 😉
well, I have pulled out all my hair trying to get this to work. I only had the one ending in 96 and deleted it but still having same issue. Pops up and says I have to reinstall, I try to reinstall and it says I have windows open. I click off all the extensions like it says and nothing changes. I did not click for it to update to 8.1 and every since it did, it has been one issue after another. I can’t find my windows disk or i’d wipe this clean and start over…can any on help?
Go to this post, and try to delete the Google Chrome using Revo Uninstaller, then download the Google chrome & install.
Try to run the Google Chrome, and if it still happens, do a right-click on Google Chrome icon. Select “Run as Administrator”
Hope this one works.
Very helpfull
Tnx a lot

You’re Welcome! You are Amazing too! 🙂
Finally! Someone who posted something useful! Thanks man. Was always annoying having it interrupt something to tell me Chrome was out of date. You’re the man. 😀
Glad that you fixed it! 🙂
Echoing the others, thank you VERY much for such a simple fix, after what were only confusing options before I found yours!
Thanks…. it´s working, and google chrome 64 is up and running 🙂
Evcellent! Works!
Maybe someday somebody will be able to explain to me why Google allows this incredibly annoying update error to continue. Everybody just says that it’s more complicated than the theory of general relativity. Then they give me a 387-step process for fixing the %^&$#@! error. Then the process doesn’t work.
Your incredibly simple solution worked like a charm. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you so much for the simple directions in plain English. I’ve been looking for a solution to this for a couple of weeks, nothing but gibberish.
I only had one of the lines that you said to delete, which I did, and it worked just fine. I’ll be reading more on your site and returning to it first whenever the need arises.
thank u very much
I had try many solution before I try this way

Thanks so much. I had tried everything else. This was so much simpler than the gobblety gook the chrome sites had on them. No muss no fuss. I love it.
Dude, thank you. This worked like a charm.
Simple, straight forward answer, not even google’s own blog had the kind of solution I’d have expected for this annoying issue.
Thanks again.
Thanks so much. I had tried everything else. This was so much simpler than the gobblety gook the chrome sites had on them. No muss no fuss. I love it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been receiving “error7” messages for months and everything I tried was in vain! followed your instructions and now my Chrome is up to date. Again, I can’t thank you enough! Bless you!
Windows 7 Case:
Haven’t even found the location of those two values/ entries to delete,
@ \Google\Update at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\Policies\, they just weren’t there. It seems I’m the only one left with this issue.
Try to remove the google chrome and re-install first, and try to run the google chrome as administrator
To run google chrome as administrator:
– Right click on the google chrome icon, and choose “Run as administrator…”
Thank you
