My books disappeared from iBook app on my device all of sudden ! Help ! Books won’t sync from iTunes !
Good morning everyone. 🙂 Today, we are going to share a troubleshooting for the following issue: book disappears from iBook and won’t sync. We have realized about this weird issue from a customer who came to our shop lately. The customer was having the exact same problem. The books disappeared from iPhone and won’t sync from iTunes. We see that the customer had many books on iTunes, but for some reason the books won’t sync even if we click SYNC button many times. The books were synced and then removed right away when we looked at the customer’s iPhone. This is why we are trying to share a solution for this weird problem. 😀
It looks like there are glitches in iBook or in iTunes. Maybe it is related to sync problem. This blog post does not guarantees 100% fix, but let’s try! 😀 😀 😀
Try these to fix the book disappearing issue (Try one thing at a time)
- Connect the device to your computer, and turn on iTunes. When connected, in iTunes, go to Books tab to see book sync information. Check if your sync setting is set to “Selected books”. If it is, then change the setting to “All books”. Click “Sync” button to manual sync. Check your device to see the books are in iBook.
- If you have never closed the iBook app on your device, try to close it, and run again. (Double tab “Home” and swipe iBook app to close)
- Try to restart your device. (Press and hold “Power Button” and swipe to restart)
- Try to force restart. (Press and hold “Home” and “Power Button” together until you see Apple logo)
- If possible, try to delete the iBook app, and re-install the iBook app. Or Check the iBook and make sure it’s the latest version. If it’s not, then download the latest iBook from App Store.
- If you have purchased books, go to App Store -> go to “Purchases” -> re-download the books
- If you have a backup in iTunes, try to restore your device with the latest backup. (For example, if you connect your iPhone to your computer, it will have a backup file in iTunes.)
This problem looks like happened many years ago, and it is still happening. Many people are saying that this is a bug. In case the above did not work for you, we will keep update this blog post when we find a new fix for this book & pdf disappearing problem. 🙂

I have a lot of books, letters, notes, underlining, AAC files, PDFs, research etc from a lot of places in iBooks on my old iPad that I NEED to keep on my new iPad. I have had no problem getting the few books to reload from iTunes Store (minus my notes and underlines, of course), but the rest seems lost in the ether. How can I can I get all this on my new iPad before I reset the old one to give to my sister?
Indeed, from one day to the other, this happened to me — and it’s mid-2016, so whatever is causing this, it most definitely never got fixed by Apple.
Just went to my ibooks library and ALL my books have disappeared. Had loads of reference material collected over many years! Erm, not happy. does anyone know why this happens and how to get the books back, if it’s possible?
I’m shocked, disappointed and frustrated. I lost everything I put together on iBooks. This is a nightmare. If by any means, you could help, please contact me.
Do not trust digital system.. It’s not safe.
I have had the same issue – all of my epub and pdf documents have disappeared….. Lonely Planet Guides, free books from Hay House etc….. Just because we haven’t paid for it via ibooks doesn’t mean it should disappear! I updated with the ISOS but this didn’t immediately happen. Not having any luck syncing or trying any of the above hints. Not happy Jan!!
i want to know and solve the ibook mac repair.
After updating my iPad I have to finish reading current book on iBooks before I can see my other books. The menu on the top left no longer works to take me back to my library. Also it no longer holds the page I am on if I leave it . When will they correct the bug? After I read all that is currently on my iBooks app I am done with this way of reading books
closing iBooks and restarting made them magically reappear, phew thank you P&T brothers
