Today we are going to share how to perform soft reset and hard reset on iPhone 7 or 7 Plus. If you run a hard reset because your iPhone is in trouble, try to operate soft reset first. The issues could be fixed without loosing data. Factory reset erases all of your data like pictures, videos, and settings. Accordingly, we recommend to make a backup before starting factory reset. Also try to fully charge your battery, otherwise the device might be shut down during the hard reset progress. Soft Reset on iPhone 7
It’s good to perform soft reset when the device is frozen or stuck at the loading screen or not responding. Usually soft reset has been operated by pressing the power button and home button on the previous iPhones. But the method is changed on iPhone 7. Here is how to operate soft reset.
- Press and Hold Down the Power + Volume Down keys together at the same time until the Apple logo comes up on the screen.
- When the device is shut down and turned on with the Apple Logo, release all held keys. Soft reset successfully has been operated.
If soft reset failed to resolve the issue, try to operate hard reset. Remember that factory reset removes all of your data and settings. Hard Reset on iPhone 7 (2 Ways)
There are two ways to perform hard reset on iPhone 7. It can be operated on the device or through iTunes. If your device is not turning on, we recommend to factory reset on iTunes.
Factory Resetting with the device
- Simply go to Settings > General > Scroll down to very bottom and tap on Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. It will take some time to get finished. Wait with patience until the processing is done. When it’s done, you can see Hello word on the screen.
Factory Resetting with iTunes
- Connect your iPhone 7 into PC or Laptop.
- iTune will be automatically launched. If not, manually launch iTunes.
- Try to find out the restore button and click on it.
How to create a backup (2 Ways)
If you have important data to save, try to make a backup file before hard resetting. You can simply restore this backup file whenever you are ready. There are two ways to create a backup. First one is to make through iCloud storage and second one is to make through iTunes. We are going to explain how to make it using iCloud first.
Backup with iCloud
- Backing up with iCloud means, your back up file will be saved into the Apple’s iCloud Server. Good thing about iCloud is that you can access your backup file wherever you want and need. Also you can restore the backup without iTunes, which means you don’t have to connect your iPhone to a computer. You can simply access the backup file from the iCloud Server while setting your iPhone up. Generally Apple’s iCloud supports 5GB of free space to save data. If you have more than 5GB of data to backup, you can upgrade the plans, which supports more storage, paying some dollars or you can create a backup file with iTunes. However, in order to make a backup file on iCloud server, go to Settings > iCloud > Scroll down and tap on Backup > Back Up Now
Backup with iTunes
- Now we are going to show how to back up with iTunes. So what we are going to do is to save the backup file in your computer. Connect your iPhone to a computer and iTunes automatically will be launched. In iTunes, you need to check two things. Check to This computer option and the click on Back Up Now button. (If you back up with iCloud option, your backup file will be saved into the Apple’s iCloud Server.) It will make a backup file for your iPhone 7 and saved into a hard drive. Next time, when you want to restore the backup file, you can simply restore it pressing the Restore Backup button located by the Back Up Now button.
