Today I’m going to show how to reset SMC & PRAM on your Macbook Pro retina.
Sometime some functions such as USB ports, HDMI, MacSafe Adapter, and etc on your macbook pro retina are not working correctly. There are something called “SMC (System Management Controller)” and “PRAM (parameter random-access memory)” on your macbook. If there is a problem or crash on the SMC or PRAM, your macbook pro retina might not work correctly. Here is an easy solution you should try to fix this issue before you bring it into the Apple Store.
Symptoms you might have due to SMC or PRAM collision:
– MagSafe power adapter indicator not displaying properly?
– USB ports not working properly?
– HDMI ports not working properly?
– Fans spinning too fast or too slow?
– Battery is not charging?
– Screen brightness control is not working?
– Keyboard backlights not working properly?
– Your macbook won’t respond?
NOTE: There are two different MacBooks. One with a removable battery, one with a built-in battery. Use the right method for your MacBook!

GOOD JOB !
i cant open my macbook pro the adapter stay green
and wont to turn on
I’m having the same issue 🙁
Thank you. I was very helpful.
I did the smc reset last night, and it left me with the battery being “unavailable” and the fans running way too fast. I left my MacBook Pro overnight and then did the same thing this morning. It seemed to work, fans were running normally and the battery life was showing. About 5 minutes into being started, my MacBook froze and shut down. It then started beeping in threes in time with the power light. Nothing seems to be working.
I had the same problem just now and my Mac pro doesn’t seem to work it turns on gives me a grey screen and says” press return key” for English and that it stays gray, nothing happens.. This happen just before I was waking on my music and it said update than after that I wont start… Help 🙂 thanks
Thank you very much for this article. My Macbook Pro finally turned on after resetting the PRAM.
Finally found something. Early-2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15in Model with i7. Kept randomly shutting off, and today it just shut off while typing my paper (was about 12 pages into it, and had one more page left. Obviously forgot to hit save since page 2) and it just shut off and lost all my work. Hopefully this “reset” works and the macbook does not randomly shut off again. I will keep an update, if no one hears from me, then this update worked.
although it sucks So glad I’m not the only one. Same here THe only way I can boot is to do a SMC bypass by unpluging, holding power b for 10 seconds, repluging and still holding power then after ten seconds letting go of the power. I think my SMC went bad but I want to try factory default. Has anyone tryed that?
The title of your article is wrong. It’s called “PRAM”, not “RPAM”.
Not doing you any favours in google.
