Types of keyboards | Today’s topic is keyboards, one of most common computer peripheral that everyone needs to do proper computing. Even I am using one right now. Anyways… did you know that there are many different types of computer keyboards?? If you don’t, This article will be helpful for you. The keyboard is a device that makes a direct contact to human body like mouse, and since we touch it regularly, it is very important to use a good quality keyboard. Also, depends on what keyboard you use, there is a difference in typing feeling, typing speed, and the stress you get while you are typing.
Types of computer keyboard
Membrane Keyboard
This is the most common keyboard that you can find today. Try to press a key in your keyboard, and if it feels like you are pushing a rubber button, yours probably a membrane type keyboard. In a membrane keyboard, there is a thin layer of an electronic circuit, and above the circuit, a rubber dome layer covers it. If you press a key, the rubber dome hits a certain point of the ciruit, and types. As it is a common keyboard, it is also very cheap, but it gives a pressure to your fingers. This membrane type is not a good option for writer, journalist, and people who types a lot.
Characteristic: Cheap, Easy to find, Quite, Lifespan of 1~15 million keystroke
Scissor-switch keyboard
It is a keyboard which still uses a rubber dome switch, but it has something diffrent than a membrane keyboard. There are scissor shaped plastic under the keyboards, and all keys are attached to plastic scissor shaped switches. It is usually thinner than a membrane keyboard, and it gives less pressure to your fingers, but it’s hard to type fast using this type of keyboards. Most latops, and netbooks use scissor-switch keyboard.
Characteristic: Thin, Light, Provides easier typing than a membrane, Hard to type fast, Lifespan of 10 million keystroke
Mechanical keyboard
Mechanical keyboards use independent & real switches underneath every keys. Depends on the construction of the switch, keyboards have varying response and travel times. Typically, most mechanical keyboards provide very fast, reliable, and comfortable typing, and gives much less pressure to your fingers when typing. It is best for writer, journalist, and people who need faster typing. Only problem with mechanical keyboards is noise. Since it has mechanical switchs underneath every keys, it creates clicking sound everytime you press a key. If you want something quite, you better stay away from it.
Characteristic: Expensive, Heavy, Noisy, Faster typing, Less key pressure, Long Lifespan, Lifespan of 50 million keystroke

Thank you.
I thought buckling spring k’bd s required more force to actuate. This is what I need due to a shakey hand. This causes many false strikes and much use of the backspace key.
From the above paragraphs, it says the mechanical k’bd is the lightest touch of all.
A key ./c more force to actuate would solve the problem. What kind and where can I get such a k’bd ?
Ordinary k’bds have too light of touch. I am using a BTC
model 5201 and it is about the same as any others I have tried. If only the home keys were more resistant would be good
